This piece is another in the family of bifurcating hoppers like the Moose, and is shown as an inverted Bishop. The Eagle moves like a Grasshopper but lands on the cells to left or right of the hurdle. [French aigle, German adler].

In a serieshelpmate Black makes a series of moves, without White moving, to reach a position where White can give mate in one move.

Solution:1.Be8 2-4.Kd8 5.Rc7 6.Qd7 7.Nc8 for Ee5‡
Double check over movable hurdles, R and B. The Q and S can intervene to stop either check, but not both.
